(This has been largely cross-posted from my DeviantART journal, as I imagine that there are those who might see it here, but not there.)

No, this isn't intended to mark a return to posting here on LiveJournal in general - I'm making use of this journal as it's one of the few places that I have that is likely to be useful as a means of conveying a message to multiple of my friends.

A recent journal by Kitty-cat-angel prompted me to realise that I have been a pretty poor friend this past year, as a result of my absence from MSN and the like (the reasons for which I don't intend to go into here; I don't feel that they are relevant to this).  I have already sent an apology to one person via note, but feel that I want to convey this apology more widely.

Simply put, I haven't been there for you, my friends, and for that I am truly sorry.

That statement seems like rather little for such a thing, but I don't know what more to say, I'm afraid.

And so I reiterate: I'm sorry.

I hope that I will be a better friend this year.

Well, where to begin?

For one, this is one of my rare serious entries.

As most of you who read this know, for many months I was involved in a truly wonderful relationship. Much to my pain, that relationship ended. And again, as most of you know, this has been the source of a very great deal of pain for me. That, I think, is to be expected. This was, after all, hardly a trivial love by any means.

However, despite the way that it might have seemed, through all of this, sometimes spurred by events, I've been working through this, and I believe that I'm starting to move on. That is not to say that I love her, my ex, any less. Not at all. I still love her deeply, and will always love her. Rather it means that I'm starting to come to terms with not being with her. I still feel jealous of the guy that she's with - how could I not, when I see her as I do? I still feel guilty for being jealous. But the jealousy is not as intense as it was, and the more importantly, the pain that I've been feeling has started to ebb. I still get depressed sometimes. But I can be happy most of the time now, and that's progress to say the least.

So, the upshot of this is that I am, I suppose, available now. That still feels really weird.

I don't know if I'm really ready for a new relationship yet, but I'm willing to find out.

On the upside, I've started really noticing pretty girls again - yeah, I really am that monogamous that I don't really look much when I'm in a loving relationship.

On the downside, it comes with loneliness again - an emotion that I'm rather familiar with, and not terribly fond of.

Am I back where I started? No, not quite. The relationship that just ended had some very definite benefits.

I'm much more self-confident now, especially with respect to my perception of my attractiveness and desirability - i.e. I now don't find it all that strange that someone might actually desire me! ^_^;; I also have more friends and closer than I might have without the relationship - for one, it was the major reason that I stayed online as much as I did, despite the cost. I'm very glad that I did, not only for the relationship, but for the friends that I've gained, and for the contact that it's alowed me to more easily keep with my friends here.

Not to mention my relationship with the woman that I was with - we're still very close indeed. We are, I'd say, best friends, and more, closer than just friends, even though we're no longer together. It's something that I treasure, and am truly thankful for.

I'm also, I think, a bit more social now than I was before. Perhaps, I'm not sure yet.

I'm rambling, I know, just putting down thoughts more or less as they come to me.

Heh, I'm starting to sound a little like Funka, rambling on like this!

In any case, how to conclude?

I don't know. I suppose just to say that things are changing for me. Hopefully for the better. Hopefully, when the chance next comes my way for something as good as I had, I'll not miss it, and I'll know how to make the best of it. I hope so.

And one more thing: Thank you, to all of you, from the bottom of my heart. Even if you didn't know about this (as I think one reader might not), just by being around you've helped. And to the rest of you, who have helped me, advised me, and held me, a truly heartfelt thank you. ^_^

I've been reflecting over the past year of late. It seems so strange that so much should change over the course of a year, just a single year.

So much has changed, both in me, and in my friends. This time last year seems like another world, with another me.

There was no way that I could have predicted the course that my life would have followed over this past year. Things started (one that I doubt that I would have believed had you told me of it this time last year), things ended, evolutions and changes.

Mostly for the better, I think. I hope.

*sigh* I suppose that I'm just getting reflective at the moment.
